This book was humorous and exciting, a combination that makes me excited to read the rest of the Discworld books. Guards Guards by Terry Pratchett Genre: Fantasy Published: 1989 Pages: 355 Est. Their scheme involves summoning a dragon, then having a man send it away and be crowned king as a result of his heroic feat. The adventure begins when a certain brotherhood decides to overthrow the current ruler of the city of Ankh-Morpork. This book is supposed to be a great place to dive into Discworld, and as I haven’t read any other Discworld books yet, I can’t disagree. Guards, the eighth book in Terry Pratchetts legendary Discworld series. Guards! Guards! takes place in Terry Pratchett’s Discworld. It also has courage, valour, humour, bits of friendship, and also a bit of love, to make you still believe somewhat in humanity.
The writing often reminds me of Harry Potter, which may be the highest praise I can give a book (not that Harry Potter is the best book/series I’ve ever read, but I grew up with those books and they hold a very special place in my heart). Guards is part of Pratchett's Discworld series and has magic potions, flying dragons, a librarian-turned-orangutan, a human with dwarf parents, and other stuff like that. It’s comedy and fantasy combined to create a delightful adventure. I waited until he was dead to read his work. I’m ashamed to admit that this is the first Terry Pratchett book I’ve ever read. “The people united can never be ignited!”
